The name Puerto Galera is Spanish for “Port of the Galleons.” For centuries, trading vessels would drop anchor of the shores of this place on the northeastern coast of Mindoro Island. Today it’s one of the top places for a quick weekend trip for the people of Metro Manila. Puerto Galera is just a few hours away.The party’s always on at White Beach. Its restaurants and bars do a good trade. But if you’re looking for something more laid-back, head to a private resort in Sabang or Muelle (the main port) beach.The “center of the center” of marine biodiversity in the world is Verde Passage – the waters between Batangas and Mindoro. Its coral reefs house about 60 percent of the world’s shore fish. Sabang is your jump-off point.

By Land: Ride the air-conditioned bus going straight to Batangas pier via CALABARZON Expressway. Travel time to Batangas pier will take more or less 2 hours and the fare is less than 200 pesos.

By Water: Upon arrival in Batangas pier, go to Terminal 3 and find the ticket booth of the ferry going to Puerto Galera. At Batangas Pier, passengers are required to pay the Terminal Fee worth 30 pesos per person and the Environmental User Fee for tourists going to Puerto Galera worth 50 pesos per person.
Puerto Galera has 4 major points of entry, namely, Sabang Pier, Muelle Pier, Balatero Pier and White Beach. If you are going to Sabang, choose the ferry that will go directly to Sabang Pier. If you are going to White Beach, make sure that the ferry will go to White Beach.
There are many shipping companies plying the Batangas-Puerto Galera route. The major passenger ferries are: FSL or Father and Son Shipping Lines, MSL or Minolo Shipping Lines and Galerian Lines.


There are local public utility vehicles, in particular, jeepneys and tricycles, which can ferry commuters to their points of destination province wide.

  • Bansudani Festival – held every January. A ritual of thanksgiving acknowledges the year's harvest with dancing, staged performance and an agro-fair that is held in community marketplaces and schools.
  • Banana Festival – held every March 18th and 19th . This event is one-of-a-kind, held locally in Baco every year on March 18th and 19th. As the name suggests, the festival is given in honour of Puerto Galera's abundant bananas and is held concurrently with St Joseph's Festival.

  • Puerto Galera offers its visitors a wide choice of sports. Most practiced are of course swimming, scuba-diving, snorkeling, boating, sailing, surfing, kayaking,  and fishing. The natural beauty of the island makes walks and hikes a real pleasure. For the more adventurous trekking through the jungle and the mountains could be a real challenge. It is advisable to ask around for a knowledgeable guide when you venture of the beaten track.

There's no problem going to Puerto Galera in any time of the year. It's the same view, same features that you will get to see whether you go during vacation or holidays. The only problem in going to Puerto Galera in a low season is the season itself because it is usually colder. Depending on how you visualize a good vacation, you still might love to have the trip on the high season months of the year. But for most people, a vacation trip should be relaxing and hassle-free - things that a low season vacation offers.
