KANNAWIDAN FESTIVAL

Kannawidan is an Ilocano term which means a feast of rich heritage and culture. 
The feast is in commemoration of the separation of the two provinces of Ilocos Sur 
and Ilocos Norte by virtue of the royal decree on February 2,1818. The celebration is considered as
the prime festival of the province   and is a visual and is a feast for the indigenous 
costumes, dances, and songs, religious rituals, cookfest and trade fairs
that showcases distinctly Ilocano products.

VIVA VIGAN FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

Held every first week of May, festivities include Binatbatan street dancing, calesa parade,
Karbo festival traditional games, religious rituals in honor of the Black Nazarene, 
santacruzan, abel iloko fashion shows, exhibits trade/food fairs and other exiting events.

SINAIT GARLIC FESTIVAL

Also known as Sinait Bawang Festival celebrated from May 1-3 in recognition to the 
hardworking garlic farmers and their remarkable talents. Activities during the festival include a
parade where floats are adorned with their famous products- bawang, street dancing,
  marching bands, distinctively Ilocano Kulinarya, and various competitions 
related to the rituals of planting and harvesting garlic.

LONGGANISA FESTIVAL

Held every 22nd day of January that features Vigan’s most sought
after “spiced” contribution in the field of gourmet.

BEGNAS FESTIVAL

Begnas, an Igorot word that refers to thanksgiving or offering rituals. 
It’s their way to celebrate and give thanks for all the blessing they received the past year.
This festival has the purpose of promoting  the identity, heritage and customs and
traditions of the indigenous people of the province of Ilocos Sur.

BAGNET FESTIVAL

Held every December, Narvacan is banking on the town’s culinary past to bring
in more domestic and foreign tourist and reclaiming its position as the birthplace of bagnet,
that delicacy that is a craze all over  Ilocandia and to gourmands. 
Every Narvacan household still holds the secret to the special technique of preparing
the crispiest and tastiest bagnet that has eluded the gastronomic inclinations of 
other Ilocano foodies which are also into bagnet production.

TOBACCO FESTIVAL

Held every 1st day of April in Candon City, a new chartered city and 
considered as the tobacco capital of the Philippines. Choreographed street dancing
competition where contestants use tobacco-inspired theme or costumes and the 
searchers for Ms. Virginia Tobacco and Miss Candon City are the much awaited events.

BINATBATAN FESTIVAL

Draped in their most colourful abel iloko the street dancing depicts the old age Ilocano
way of beating the sheaf of cotton with two sticks usually bamboo or lagundi. 
Panagbatbat ti kapas is considered the third step of the traditional way of cotton loom weaving
before twisting it using the spindle- panagsunay or pinagtibbi  ti kapas. In preserving one of the
most treasured surviving Ilocano Industries- Panagabel, the binatbatan
folk dance is the centrepiece of the festival.

WORLD HERITAGE CITIES SOLIDARITY DAY

As the only heritage city in the Philippines, Vigan City celebrates this event every 
8th day of September highlighted events such as Vigan history telling contest, ancestral house 
and museum visits, food fair, photo contest/ exhibits and cultural shows.

 

 

One can take the Manila-Laoag-Manila flights via Philippine Air Lines and Cebu Pacific and travel time is about 1.5-2 hours from Laoag City to Vigan City via public buses going to South to Manila.

By Land, air- conditioned buses from Manila such as Partas, Viron and Dominion have direct daily trips to Vigan City that usually take 6-8 hours. The national highway traverses almost all the towns of Ilocos Sur and this major thoroughfare is being service by air- conditioned buses like Fariñas, Maria de Leon, RCJ including Partas with Laoag City as their depot and main terminal. Once in the province, the customary modes of conveyance are tricycles, jeepneys, vans and mini buses.
